He throws a temper tantrum and about 800,000 federal workers are uncertain about their future. If the shutdown continues much longer, a lot of federal workers will have to make a decision. Continue working without pay, or move on. Half of the workers are considered essential. The shutdown came at a time that should have been joyful for most families (Christmas), but instead, some gifts had to be returned and that money put back into the savings account. It’s either food or that nice sweater you got from your sister.
President Trump says he won’t reopen the government until he has funding for his border wall. He clearly only cares about himself and doesn’t care about those whom he will ultimately inconvenience. He is taking food out of people’s mouths. Once the wall is built, then what? I am a US federal worker. We have nothing to do with this political debate. We are in the middle of the fight, and we are being punished. We are not decision makers. We come to work to get a paycheck. This entire situation is ridiculous!
Not everyone has the luxury to chill and not worry during the shutdown. Some people are living paycheck to paycheck and do not have financial reserves. The President has no clue what it’s like to live from check to check. It is hard for federal workers to figure out how long they will be without pay. They have obligations. Creditors still want their money and they don’t care that we didn’t get paid because of the shutdown.. What’s worse is some federal agencies will not even let you take on another job while you are furloughed.
In 2013, I was faced with the longest government shutdown. Now, here we are again with no resolution in sight. While most of America is sitting in limbo, Congress is still getting paid. The president and his staff are also being taken care of. If the shoe was on the other foot, I’m pretty sure negations would be made much quicker.
